    Despite its unfortunate common name, it does not cause hay fever or sneezing. Its pollen is heavy and sticky, meaning it is transported exclusively by insects rather than the wind. Highly tolerant of seasonal flooding and heavy clay. It will require supplemental watering if planted in dry garden beds. Strong, fibrous root system helps stabilize soil along shorelines and in flood-prone areas
